Worship and Prayer

This page gives details of Sunday Services, Sunday Activities for Young People, and also weekday meetings for prayer, Communion and teaching.

 

Sunday Services:

8.30 am Holy Communion.  A service of said communion on the 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month.

10 am Morning Worship.  These services draw upon the traditions of the four denominations represented at St. Luke’s and the organ, choir and music group provide musical support.  On the 4th Sunday of the month, morning worship includes Holy Communion.  Children and young people are invited to join in one of the various groups which run in parallel with the 10am service.  On some Sundays, the Uniformed Organisations join us for their Parade Service.

Following Morning Worship, coffee and tea are served in the Hall. 

11.30 am Holy Communion.  On the 1st Sunday of each month, this service includes traditional hymns led by the choir and follows the Book of Common Prayer.

6.30 pm Evening Worship & Bible Study.  1st Sunday - Teaching Bible Study (in the Lounge); 2nd Sunday - Holy Communion (in church); 3rd Sunday - 'ReFresh' (see below); 4th Sunday - Reflective Bible Study (in the Upper Room). 

6.30- 7.30 pm 3rd Sunday. ReFresh Cafe Church service  For young people (and the 'young at heart') with music, quizzes, games, talk and doughnuts! 

The Church is equipped with an induction loop for the hard of hearing, and large print song sheets are available.  Recordings of sermons are also available on loan for those unable to attend (or click on 'Downloads').

    Little Stars.  For 0-5 years olds during the 10.00am service.  Children start with their parents in Church and then transfer to the Lounge.  Babies are cared for and suitable activities are provided for the older ones.  Parents are welcome to stay with their children or return to the service.
 


Shooting Stars for children from Reception to Y2.  Meet in the Church at 10.00am for Bible Stories, games, fun, craft and prayer

 

  Ignite, for children and young people in Y3 to Y6, meets in Church at 10.00am each Sunday. After some time together in the main service, we make our way to the Upper Meeting Room to spend time together exploring and understanding the message of Jesus in a relevant and fun way.

  

 
                           Impact, for young people in Y7 and above, meets in Church at 10.00am each Sunday. After some time together in the main service, we move to the Meeting Room where we explore the message of Jesus and its relevance to young people today.  

 

 Midweek Prayers, Communion and Teaching.

Tuesdays, 9.30 to 10 am.   A half-hour of prayer in the Chapel, based on the selected Psalm for the day, leading on to praying for the needs of the world, the Church and personal concerns. 

Wednesdays 7.30 to 8.00 pm. Prayer for the sick and those in any kind of need (in the Chapel).

Mid-week Holy Communion.  On the 3rd Thursday of each month, Holy Communion is celebrated in the Chapel at 10.30am.

Teaching on the Christian Faith.  Courses in Christian basics and follow up nurture groups are held on a regular basis.
