Worship and Prayer
This page gives details of Sunday Services, Sunday Activities for Young People, and Weekday Meetings for Prayer.
Sunday Services:
8.30 am Holy Communion. A service of said communion on the third and fifth Sundays of the month.
10 am Morning Worship. These services draw upon the traditions of the four denominations represented at St. Luke’s, and the organ, choir and music group provide musical support. On the fourth Sunday of the month morning worship includes Holy Communion. Children are invited to join in Kids Church which runs in parallel in the Hall. Little Stars for the Under Fives meets each week. On some second Sundays of the month the Uniformed Organisations join us for their Parade Service.
11.30 am Holy Communion. On the first Sunday of each month, this service includes traditional hymns led by the choir and follows the Book of Common Prayer.
6.30 pm Evening Worship. There are no evening services on the 1st, 4th and 5th Sunday Evenings. On the 2nd Sunday in the month the Service includes Holy Communion.
6.30pm 3rd Sunday Reality. Reality is an alternative church service, aimed at, but not certainly exclusive to, young people. Set out in a café style format with tea, coffee and donuts on tap the aim is to create an environment where everyone is relaxed and free to worship God in a way that suits them.
Following Morning Worship, coffee and tea is served in the Hall.
The Church is equipped with an induction loop for the hard of hearing, and large print song sheets are available at our services. Recordings of services are available on loan for those who are unable to attend through illness.
Little Stars. For under fives during the 10.00am service. Children start with their parents in Church and then transfer to the Lounge. Babies are cared for and suitable activities are provided for the older ones. Parents are welcome to stay with their children or return to the service.
Shooting Stars for children from Reception to Y3. Meet in the Church at 10.00am for Bible Stories, games, fun, craft and prayer
Explode for children from Y4 to Y7. Meet in the Church at 10.00am each Sunday for Bible Teaching, games, fun, craft, stories prayer.
Fusion is a relaxed group for Y8 and above meeting in the Church at 10.00am with the aim of allowing young people to chillout and discuss and debate various topic’s relating to the Bible. The various themes will be illustrated through the use of DVD, Music, Magazines and even the odd newspaper.
Midweek Prayers, Communion and Teaching.
Tuesdays, 9.30 to 10 am and Thursdays 7.30 to 8 am. A half-hour of prayer in the Chapel, based on the selected Psalm for the day, leading on to praying for the needs of the world, the Church and personal concerns.
Wednesdays 7.30 to 8.00 pm, Prayer for the sick and needy, also in the Chapel
Holy Communion on the Westminster Estate. On the third Wednesday of each month Holy Communion is celebrated in the Community Centre, 53 Westminster Crescent at 10.45 am.
Teaching on the Christian Faith. Courses in Christian basics, Alpha groups and follow up nurture groups are held on a regular basis.
